BGCCVI Update – March 26, 2020

Hello to our Parents and Guardians,

Under the current Pandemic situation, I wish to inform all our families that all our Childcare and Early Learning locations, at this time, remain closed. Sadly, this means that we had no option but to temporarily lay off all 90 of our childcare staff. We know this is a tough situation for our staff as they are incredibly dedicated to you and your families and they truly miss their kids. In these unprecedented times, I send each one of you warm wishes for good health.

In the coming days, my Leadership Team and I are working both internally with our staff team and externally with our partners in the community, around the possibility of offering childcare to our essential services workers. We hope to have some information available for those parents/guardians by the end of the day on Friday. If you have completed our survey and indicated you require ESSENTIAL childcare, one of our staff will be reaching out to you in the coming days.

Please continue to visit our website homepage at www.bgccvi.com which we will be using alerts to keep our families up to date. From our website you can find links to our Facebook and Instagram pages, where we will also be posting any updates. I truly appreciate your support and patience during these stressful and uncertain times. Please remember, the spaces we open will be initially for our BGCCVI families providing essential services in our communities and have NO alternative for childcare with an option to extend to the wider essential service providers should space and available staffing permit.. The advice from the Medical Health Officer is that we should be staying home and also keeping our children at home.

In the meantime, to try and alleviate some stress around summer camp registration and fall registrations, I wanted to inform you that our system will open as scheduled on April 1st to register for summer camp and fall childcare services for our current BGCCVI families. The system will open on May 1st to the wider community.

The one change I did want to make you aware of is that after you have registered, you WILL NOT receive a confirmation call from BGCCVI until we are back in full operational mode, which we all hope will be prior to the end of the school year. We currently have 500 licensed childcare spaces. Therefore I do ask that parents/guardians, of which we have over 300 at this time, refrain from emailing or calling our office with questions that at this time we likely do not have the answers to.

We understand this is not an ideal situation, but once we have been advised by the Provincial Medical Officer that as a Province our services can continue as they were prior to COVID, our staff will be working hard to reach out to our parents/guardians to reopen programs.
