Hudson’s Bay

Giving Day

On March 24th, 2017, Hudson’s Bay and Home Outfitters will be running their “Giving Day” campaign where customers are encouraged to purchase a $5 ticket that entitles them to receive a discount on almost all of their purchases, including cosmetics. This year, 70% of proceeds will be donated to BGCC to fund HBC Summer Brain Gain.

Hudson’s Bay and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada

The Hudson’s Bay Foundation’s charitable giving strategy, Strength in Stripes, addresses the needs of Canada’s future and works to ensure that every Canadian can achieve their full potential. The campaign incorporates three primary components: Achieve, Thrive and Win.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is their primary partner under the “Achieve” pillar, which focuses on empowering Canadians to overcome barriers through education, mentorship and community engagement.

HBC Summer Brain Gain

Research indicates that many students suffer from learning loss during the summer months, with disadvantaged students being particularly vulnerable. Summer literacy programs can help counteract those losses.

With the support of Hudson’s Bay, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada launched HBC Summer Brain Gain, a program that provides opportunities to practice reading and mathematics skills on a daily basis in an enjoyable environment. The program focuses on two key outcomes:

• educational activities that look and feel different from the regular school day

• high levels of youth engagement and motivation

HBC Summer Brain Gain provides the support that young people need to make their summer vacation a season of continued learning and development.
