Update Regarding Gradual Re-opening of our Child Care Programs & Facilities

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We wanted to provide our families with an update around the gradual re-opening of our child care programs and facilities given the recent announcement from the Government of B.C regarding the BC Restart plan. As an essential service provider ourselves, we are very aware of the impact the reduction in childcare is having on our families, including those who are essential service providers. We are currently working internally to plan for a safe and graduated re-opening of our daycares and out of school care locations, in collaboration with the local school divisions and our licensing officers.

We hope that by opening our locations to a small number of children with a higher staff to child ratio than is required by licensing, we can provide a safe environment for BGCCVI staff and children in our programs.

At this time we are supporting essential service providers identified by the Government of B.C. here. We have opened 3 locations: Coal Tyee and Forest Park for out of school care and Chase River for daycare. Between now and the end of June we hope that all our locations will be re-opened in some capacity. We do want to advise you that the number of children we can accept between now and then will be limited to approximately 50% of our maximum licensed capacity. Due to the need for social distancing, we will NOT be returning to pre-COVID numbers for some time once our new ‘normal’ has been established.

So what do you need to do as a parent/guardian?

IF YOU REQUIRE CHILDCARE between now and the end of June, please go to the Child Care Parent Survey here or go to our website here at www.bgccvi.com and complete the survey. Please ensure you answer each question. If, AT THIS TIME, you do not intend to send your child/ren to us prior to the end of June, please do not complete the survey. Please be aware that we will do our best to accommodate all requests however filling out the survey does not guarantee you will have a spot.

What about summer camps?

We hope to be offering a variety of summer camps beginning in July. Again, these spaces will be reduced from our normal number of spaces offered. If you have registered your child/ren for summer camp, our Program Leaders will be contacting parents between now and the first week of June, to discuss your registrations.

What about September programs?

Much of our offerings in September will be aligned with the Government of B.C. recommendations at that time and we will endeavor to reach out to parents and confirm spots by the end of June. We encourage you to continue to register your child/ren for September.

We are aware that these times have been very stressful for our families and will continue to be stressful as society finds our new normal. We are ensuring we have safe protocols in place for your kids and we very much look forward to welcoming them back. Each year we serve over 900 children in our Early Learning and Childcare programs, therefore, we have many parents to reach out to. We do appreciate your ongoing support and patience.

Thank you,

Karen Love
