South Side Teen Centre
The Teen Centre offers youth the opportunity to develop positive peer relationships through activities that focus on healthy living, social recreation, cultural awareness and life skill development. Past activities include Aboriginal drumming, attending youth conferences, volunteering at community events, cooking nights, and playing different sports.
The program is designed for youth ages 13-18, however, there may be activities and programs open to 11 and 12 year olds. Please contact the Youth Programs Supervisor at (250) 713-5787 for more information or connect with us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bandgclubofcvi.
On a daily basis many queer youth are faced with discrimination, harassment and violence at home, in their communities, and at school. As well, many queer youth are experiencing high rates of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and substance at an alarmingly high rate. We as allies want to minimize the risk that the queer youth in our community face. This was the idea behind the creation of the group Generation Q. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive space that allows youth to connect, and openly express their concerns regarding issues impacting their lives and the LGBTQQIP2SAA community. As service providers, and members of the community we have an obligation to talk openly and honestly about issues facing queer youth, and work together to do everything we can to eliminate those fears and work together to initiate positive change. Come join Generation Q at the Teen Centre every Thursday evening for a fun safe and supportive group, ages 13-18. Youth ages 18-24 are also encouraged to attend to participate as youth mentors and program volunteers. Connect with Gen Q on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GenerationQPUBLIC or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
