A positive, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies

Many LGBTQ2SIA+ youth face multiple intersectional barriers when it comes to accessing housing, mental health support, employment and gender affirming care. Many of these folks have experienced or will experience higher rates of violence (physical, emotional, sexual and lateral), homelessness, depression, suicidal ideation, isolation, and marginalization. Due to these facts, we here at BGC of Central Vancouver Island have made it our mission to create more accountable and protected spaces for this vulnerable population; as we believe that LGBTQ2SIA+ youth will not only benefit from, but continue to grow and thrive when more safe and affirming, spaces are created- spaces where these identities and orientations are not only recognized but celebrated!

At generation Q our goal is to provide the following:

  • A safe space for LGBTQ2SIA+ youth to explore their sexual and gender identities
  • A safe space for LGBTQ2SIA+ youth to socialize and foster inclusiveness
  • Working to reduce prejudice and bullying towards the LGBTQ2SIA+ community
  • A resource hub for parents and the community, regarding allyship and LGBTQ2SIA+ issues
  • Advocacy for LGBTQ2SIA+ children and youth in all capacities

Gen Q invites young people ages 12-18 who identify as LGBTQ2SIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Two-Spirit, Intersex, Asexual/Aromantic/Agender, or another gender or sexual orientation minority) to meet every Thursday night at 6:30pm for a variety of activities (games, movie nights, crafts, discussions, guest speakers and more!) and conversations in a supportive, inclusive environment.

By providing a safe and welcoming environment where gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning people can come to meet, talk, get to know each other, ask questions and understand themselves better, we hope to support as many LGBTQ2SIA+ youth in our community in as many diverse ways we can. Coming out is an ongoing, ever evolving, never ending narrative…..Let us support you in  continuing to write your story!
