Frequently Asked Questions

The Haunting of Beban House is a Halloween experience inside one of Nanaimo’s best-known historic homes. Guests will make their way through the house while discovering some of its history, hearing the stories that have surrounded it over the years, and encountering a few surprises along the way.

It’s spooky, atmospheric and designed to give you a few good scares, but we’re not trying to compete for the title of Nanaimo’s most terrifying haunted attraction. What makes this one different is the setting: you’re walking through the rooms and hallways of the actual historic Beban House, a place with plenty of stories of its own.

There are no age restrictions for the haunted house. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to use their best judgement based on how their child typically responds to spooky environments, darkness and surprises.

The experience takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, although times may vary slightly depending on your group.

That depends who you ask. Beban House has a long history in Nanaimo and has become well known for the stories associated with it. We want guests to leave knowing a little more about Beban House, the people and stories connected to it, and why the house has captured Nanaimo’s imagination for so long. Part of the fun of the event is getting inside the house, learning some of that history and deciding for yourself what you believe.

Advance tickets are strongly recommended. A limited number of walk-up tickets may be available, depending on capacity. Walk-up guests may also experience a wait before we’re able to accommodate them. Purchasing ahead is the best way to secure your preferred time.

No! There’s no need to print your tickets. You can simply show your ticket on your phone when you arrive.

Tickets are non-refundable. Because admission is scheduled around limited event capacity, we’re unable to offer refunds for tickets that have already been purchased.

Beban House is a historic home built nearly 100 years ago, which does create some accessibility limitations. The main floor of the haunted house is wheelchair accessible, but the other two storeys are not. Guests who use a wheelchair can still experience the main-floor portion of the event.

We encourage you to put your phone away while you’re inside and enjoy the experience as it happens. That said, photography and video aren’t prohibited, so we won’t stop you from capturing a spooky moment or two. We just ask that you’re considerate of other guests and don’t let your phone get in the way of the experience.
